I ra...Wouldn't dream of docking Social Network. I ranked it #3 out of the 109 films I saw in 2010. But if I were to say in your comments section "So glad to see Social Network on there!", it would seem a bit superfluous, doesn't it? Personally, I'm worried that The King's Speech has the momentum and that The Social Network will somehow not win the Oscar for best picture. That wouldn't be as criminal as some choices (Crash over Brokeback Mountain?) because The King's Speech is definitely very good, but come on, this should be Social Network's year. (And, do my special "right reasons" for loving The Social Network have anything to do with Trent Reznor's score?)

Also glad that you didn't like The Other Guys. What a confused mess that was. They had no idea what they wanted to do, and changed up the traits of the characters every five minutes. It was really good up until the point The Rock and Sam Jackson jump off the building. But that's only about 20 minutes in.Derek Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13750747272647975591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-17262956402257155302011-02-16T14:02:39.040-08:002011-02-16T14:02:39.040-08:00Alex - You're not the only one who had problem...Alex - You're not the only one who had problems with Chloe. I think what happened with it, and this is in way a knock on your critical skills because I have read your review and it is valid, is that Egoyan is used to making obviously complex movies where people can see the complexity unspooling. Obviously to look no deeper into his work than this is a crime but, hey, welcome to film criticism circa 2010. Chloe has all the complexy of an Egoyan film but none of the obviousness while also taking on the guise of a genre film and people couldn't see past that. It seems that these days face value is everything.

Vance - Yeah, I had a busy month and fell way behind. Hopefully I will get more productive again into March. I need to finish my recollection of my time in the movie industry and really miss my regular reviewing and editorializing as well as frequently commenting on other blogs.

I've fixed my error. Daybreakers I felt had plenty of ambition in it's style and was backed by an interesting concept but damn, the execution was boring and was reduced to more or less a bloodbath in the end. Call it a missed opportunity. What though, I must ask, could you have possibly liked about Serve Beer in Hell?

AS for the Social Network, don't dock it for everyone loving it, but rather take pride in knowing that you loved it for different reasons (could one be so bold as to say, the right reasons?).The Taxi Driverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04352371911592068643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-20478206620682095922011-02-16T11:41:53.385-08:002011-02-16T11:41:53.385-08:00I am going to try and let you off the hook for cal...I am going to try and let you off the hook for calling them the "Cohen" brothers. ;-)

I would have definitely seen It's Kind of a Funny Story if I hadn't needed to see it in the theater in time for my deadline. Knowing who directed it, I suspected the trailers were aimed at a popular middle ground that made the film seem less perceptive than it really was.

Love that you also hated Dead Snow (I didn't get the fuss) and Legion, but why Daybreakers?

I must be the only person who liked I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.

Of your top ten I am most excited about endorsing Rabbit Hole and Greenberg. The Social Network is better than both, but I am not excited about endorsing it, per se, because so many others already have.

Thanks for sharing ... I've been looking for this post for about three weeks. :-)Derek Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13750747272647975591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-81347303535151420512011-02-15T13:08:40.066-08:002011-02-15T13:08:40.066-08:00Great list, Mike.
