I don't want to see Gladiator as Robin Hood, I want Sherwood Forest and the prankster who brought a powerful sherif to his knees!

It worries me when not only the rest of Hollywood, but Scott himself thinks he has to recreate the same movie again and again instead of looking for a more original angle.

I've been wanting to see the DC of Kingdom of Heaven, but haven't for some reason...CrazyCrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17512240982215608638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-23889287291568737562010-05-04T14:24:35.372-07:002010-05-04T14:24:35.372-07:00Lovely. And yet, how dare they cover up Edward Norton.Simonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08085105568601878075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-31036719974751791922010-05-04T11:49:59.463-07:002010-05-04T11:49:59.463-07:00@ Olive: Thanks! Is that why you hated Colin Farrell?

@Wyner: Hmmm, so far I haven't grown weary of Gladiator after numerous viewings. But director's cuts can be quite different from the original I agree, though I'd only watch Troy again on account of Eric Bana.

@ Chris: I might have to checkout the KoH's director's cut now that you & Wyner mention it. And yes, that battle scene in Bourne Woods is something else isn't it? Interesting that it's being used again in Robin Hood. Richard Harris is also one of the best things in The Count of Monte Cristo, even though he's only on screen for a few minutes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-60269120802949418462010-05-04T11:30:03.794-07:002010-05-04T11:30:03.794-07:00Ditto what everyone else is saying about KINGDOM O...Ditto what everyone else is saying about KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. The director's cut of that film is fantastic, but you'd never know it based on the theatrical cut. The DC adds both the clarity and heart that are so pointedly missing from the TC.

The DC of TROY doesn't improve that film quite as much, but it does help. I don't think it's quite the epic failure people like to claim it is, personally, but to each his own.

I haven't seen GLADIATOR since it was in theatres, but it's one I really should revisit for all the reasons in your essay. Nice work!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-60616961550942402752010-05-04T06:48:47.140-07:002010-05-04T06:48:47.140-07:00Though I'd argue that the Director's Cut o...Though I'd argue that the Director's Cut of KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is a better film than all the others - including GLADIATOR - my jaw always drops at how magnificent the opening battle in Germany is, and how great Richard Harris is whenever he's on screen.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13600990166210022027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-76934467999822303562010-05-04T04:57:27.587-07:002010-05-04T04:57:27.587-07:00...I've got to say that over the years I have ......I've got to say that over the years I have grown weary of Gladiator and yet both Troy and Kingdom of Heaven have gone up in my estimation thanks to the Director's cuts now available... oh and Rome pretty much drew a line in the sand where this stuff is concerned.Wyner / CinemaScreamhttp://www.cinemascream.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571769854236946971.post-26814498876401072682010-05-04T04:42:56.416-07:002010-05-04T04:42:56.416-07:00Great post:)
